City of Vancouver – Developing an Olympic Economic Development Brand

In 2009, Oglov Business Development Inc was engaged to help the City of Vancouver – which was about to host the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games – develop an economic development brand that would represent the City’s focus on being the “greenest city in the world by 2020” and tell the world that the City is truly open for business.

After several months of working with the Mayor and council and senor civic officials, the result was:

  • Launch of the “Vancouver: Green Capital” brand that led the City’s economic development and communications initiatives throughout the 2010 Games;
  • Vancouver House – a business venue, themed on “Vancouver Green Capital” where nearly 8,500 business guests were hosted during the Games, plus another 73,000 attendees from the general public.
  • A strong business theme for the City of Vancouver in its participation in the Metro Vancouver Commerce’s hosting of 100+ international business guests during the Games.

With its success during the Games, the “Vancouver Green Capital” brand will continue to grow and be an integral part of the City’s economic development strategy in the years to come.

Life During and After 2010 Transition Workshops

Throughout 2009, Oglov Business Development Inc. ran a series of popular workshops for a number of blue chip companies, including Bell Canada, Petro Canada/Suncor, the 2010 Federal Secretariat and the Own the Podium program.

The aim of these workshops was to help the organization’s dedicated Olympic business team prepare to “thrive and survive” in their work with the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.  These one-day seminars led participants through a series of exercises to test and hone their skills readiness, as well as introducing inspirational speakers with Olympic experience.

The workshops were such a success,  that Oglov Business Development Inc. Is working on other themed workshops that will be launched in the next few months.
